Sad Autumn Song

So sorry for the many months of blog neglect. Life got busy, though mostly in a good way. This is actually a poem I wrote a while ago, but newly revised. Thought I should post it while we're still in the fall.

Sad Autumn Song

Fallen
leaf,
breeze
carrying you
in slow
circles
till you reach
the soft earth.

Memories
of your brightest
green
shine on me
with the autumn sun,
sweet summer,
gone,
and after a
last burst of
gold
you fade,
the wind weeps
and you're gone,
how I yearn to reach
for you as you
fall away;
but I can only
watch as
you go down
and become
one with
the
roots.

Music Haiku

On music I float
Down a river so gently
To seas of blue beats

Sun Shower

Spring sun
beats gently bright,
replacing frost with
flowers as I sit in
its light, warmth
pouring into me
in a rain of rays

Quiet

Noise of the
city seeps
into me
until it clangs
like clashing
drums
and I cling
to the peace
in nothing,
silence a song
of stillness
I sink into,
ears resting
to its tuneless
symphony

For My Future Valentine

One day
we will walk
hands clasped
white hair
billowing
in the breeze
as we laugh
and speak of
children grown
and of life
shared,
like a painting
with strokes
sometimes severe
mixed with sweet
softer, shades;
and we gaze
at our
masterpiece,
imperfectly perfect.

And so patiently,
I wait.

Airplane Dreams

How lovely to
be lost in clouds,
flying through
wisps of white
bathed in blue,
serenity in the silky
sun-drenched sky

Hope

Swimming
in the sea
again
vastness
stretching on
yet now
waves
push me
peacefully
to the place
I’ve almost
seen,
    a million miles
    still and
storms
may turn
the current
cruel
but for now
I glide,
    content.

Struggle

I am like a
small silhouette
staring out
at sea,
unknown splendor
just beyond
the vastness.

I run in
swim
but salty coldness
sprays
slaps
stings,
wild waves
like arms
menacing
shove me back
on shore
and I sit,
exhausted
sodden
as yet again
I stare.

Oh, but the
splendor!
Squinting, I can
almost
see it.
And so again
I run in.

Hugs

How I love
to get
lost in arms
interlocking,
warmth
wrapping me
in like a
blanket for
my soul,
safe from
winter’s
deep chill

Forgotten

Fragile rose,
you burst into
lush red
beauty
full and fragrant,
gazed at
admired
loved;
but how
the still room
softly echoes
as your petals
peel
and fall

Beginnings

Just a brief introduction: My name is Kayla Klatzkin, and I am a New York-based writer. Though I have never had much talent with a brush, I have long had a passion for painting with words. This blog is a place for me to practice my strokes.

I plan to update regularly, a minimum of once or twice per week, but if the inspiration strikes…let’s just say there’s no maximum! Your thoughts and feedback are always appreciated, so please feel free to comment or email me.

Like many an artist, I yearn to create beautiful things. If I can achieve this on here, even just a few times, I will consider this blog worth doing. So here I go, taking out my easel and canvas. Thanks so much for coming along with me!

Beginnings

As if
emerging out
of a pool
pristine
I begin
cleansed,
golden warmth
lighting my
face
as I stare
at a cloudless
sky of endless
sapphire
